Sustainable Sourcing: We will consider the environmental impact when sourcing products and services and prioritise suppliers that have demonstrated a commitment to sustainability.

Environmental actions

Office Practices

  • Reduce paper use by promoting digital communication and documentation.
  • Recycle paper, cardboard, and other recyclable materials.
  • Use energy-efficient lighting and appliances.
  • Implement a “green” purchasing policy, giving preference to eco-friendly and sustainably sourced products.
  • The Charity will continue to operate a hybrid working system which reduces travel.

Waste reduction and recycling

  • All employees must aim to reduce, reuse, recycle before disposal.
  • The Charity provides the appropriate recycling bins and ensures correct waste segregation.
  • The Charity will always attempt to have old equipment and furniture reused by selling or donating them.  If items are not reusable, they will be recycled responsibly.

Procurement and purchasing

  • The Charity will choose products that are durable, energy-efficient, ethically produced and recyclable where possible and all employees must consider the environmental impact when purchasing goods and services.

Digital and IT Sustainability

  • The Charity aims to extend device lifespan through maintenance and upgrades where possible.
  • Employees must be mindful of the energy consumption associated with the devices and services they use. Digital activities, such as streaming, browsing, and cloud storage, all require energy, much of which still comes from fossil fuels. Individual employees can reduce their digital carbon footprint by:
  • Deleting unnecessary files
  • Being selective about emails: Sending and receiving large numbers of emails, especially with attachments, increases server load and energy consumption. Try to keep email attachments small and consider using cloud storage links instead.
  • Unsubscribe from unwanted emails: This reduces the volume of email traffic you receive, cutting down on unnecessary digital storage and processing.
  • Avoid Overcharging Devices.  Unplug devices once fully charged

Fundraising and Events Activities

  • Minimise the use of unsustainable merchandise opting for eco-friendly materials, locally produced merchandise and reusability and durability.
  • Aim to run events that minimise environmental impact using sustainable venues and materials.
  • Reduce waste at events by minimizing single-use plastics and providing recycling options.
  • Use digital invitations RSVPs, and promotional materials, when possible, to avoid paper waste.
  • Choose venues and suppliers that align with sustainable practices.

Carbon reduction and energy use

  • In 2026 we aim to review our energy use in the office by working with free energy advisors, looking at the air conditioning, solar panels and ventilation.

Training and awareness

We will ensure employees and volunteers understand their environmental responsibilities through:

  • Induction training
  • Periodic updates and reminders
  • Clear guidance on practical steps

Policy review

This policy will be reviewed annually or sooner if there are significant changes to operations or legislation.
