Fundraising FAQs
We’ve put together answers to some of the most common questions about fundraising in support of Leukaemia Care. If you can’t find what you need here, our Fundraising Team is always happy to help – just email fundraising@leukaemiacare.org.uk or call 01905 755 977.
Getting started
Where do I start?
You can register online to tell us all about your idea, activity or event, or get in touch with our team to chat. We’ll send you a fundraising pack and help you get started.
Do I need permission to raise money?
Usually you don't - but if you are holding a public event or collection, you may need permission from your local council, venue or supermarket. Our team can guide you.
Do I need to be a certain age?
Anyone can fundraise, but under-18s must have consent from a parent or guardian. Some activities, like lotteries or collections, have legal age limits.
Money and donations
How do I pay you the money I’ve raised?
- Pay online through our donation page.
- Call us on 01905 755 977 to donate by card.
- Send a cheque made out to Leukaemia Care to: One Birch Court, Blackpole East, Worcester, WR3 8SG. Include a little note where possible about you and your fundraising. CAF vouchers also accepted by post.
- Ask for our bank account details if you’d prefer a direct transfer. Email fundraising@leukaemiacare.org.uk or call 01905 755 977.
- Contact us to discuss cash donations and how best to get this to us safely. Please do not send cash in the post.
- We’ll send you an official thank you acknowledgement on receipt of your donation.
Can I claim Gift Aid on donations?
Yes – if your donors are UK taxpayers and they fill in a Gift Aid form, we can claim 25p extra for every £1 they give, at no extra cost to them.
Events and activities
Can I hold a raffle, lottery or auction?
Yes, but there are rules. Small raffles at a private event (like a quiz or dinner) usually don’t need a licence if sold and drawn on the same day. Public raffles or lotteries are more regulated. Contact us first so we can guide you.
Do I need insurance or a risk assessment?
If you are holding an event open to the public, you may need public liability insurance and a simple risk assessment. We can provide templates and advice.
What if I don’t meet my fundraising target?
If you’re fundraising for your own event, every pound helps and there’s no minimum.
If you have a charity place in a challenge event (like the London Marathon), it’s different. We pay for every place, so we do set a minimum target. Not meeting this could put your place at risk. We’ll always work with you and give you tips to help you hit your target.
Can someone from Leukaemia Care come to my event?
We’ll always ask if someone can attend, and we’ll extend the invite to our volunteer network. But our resources are stretched, so we can’t guarantee attendance. Please give us at least two weeks’ notice if you’d like us to try to arrange this.
Should I take photos of my fundraising?
Yes, please – we love seeing your photos! A great photo shows your activity in action, whether that’s your bake sale, a quiz night in full swing, or you crossing the finish line. We prefer these to “big cheque” shots, as they tell the story of your event. Send your photos to us and we’ll celebrate your efforts.
Can you share my fundraiser on social media?
We try to thank and highlight fundraisers across our channels. You might appear on our social media, newsletter, website and sometimes press. We can’t guarantee every fundraiser will be posted, but we do our best to share as many as possible.
Online fundraising
How do I set up an online fundraising page?
It’s quick and free with JustGiving or another platform of your choice. We can show you how to link your page to Leukaemia Care.
Can people donate directly through Facebook or Instagram?
Yes – you can create a birthday fundraiser or add a donate button to posts. All donations come directly to us.
Practical help
What resources can you give me?
We can send posters, sponsorship forms, collection tins, T-shirts and social media graphics. Just let us know what you need.
Other ways to help
Can my workplace get involved?
Yes – we offer payroll giving, charity of the year partnerships, team challenges and more. Find out more about our corporate partnerships.
Can my school or club support you?
Definitely. We have fundraising ideas for schools, Scouts, Guides, Rotary, sports clubs and more.
Safety and legal
Can I collect donations door-to-door or in the street?
Street collections and door-to-door fundraising need a licence from the local council. Please contact us before you arrange this.
What about food safety if I’m baking or cooking?
If you’re making cakes or food to sell, follow standard food hygiene advice. We can share guidance with you.
