Our annual surveys help us understand public awareness and patient experiences. They shape the future of blood cancer care.
What we ask
Each year, we survey members of the public and people affected by leukaemia. We ask questions about:
- Awareness of key symptoms
- How long it took to be diagnosed
- What symptoms people had before diagnosis
- Experiences with GPs and referrals
What we’ve learned
We discovered that:
- Fewer than 1 in 3 people can name a symptom of leukaemia without being prompted.
- It's very common to wait more than a month to get a diagnosis. This happened to more than 40 in 100 people after first seeing a healthcare professional.
- Fatigue and frequent infections are among the most common but most overlooked symptoms.
How we use the data
We use these insights to:
- Shape our awareness campaigns
- Inform NHS guidance and early diagnosis strategies
- Educate healthcare professionals
- Make a stronger case for earlier intervention and support
