Become a buddy volunteer

Our Buddy Volunteers offer a listening ear and a friendly voice to people living with leukaemia. This role is about giving time, empathy, and understanding to someone who may feel alone.

What you’ll do

  • Offer one-to-one support by phone, video call or email.
  • Provide emotional support and encouragement.
  • Share your experience of leukaemia (if relevant) to help others feel less alone.
  • Signpost people to Leukaemia Care services when needed.

What you’ll gain

Time commitment

  • 12 weeks of buddying per person you are matched with, with ongoing reviews.
  • Training before you start, plus regular check-ins with our team.

Who can apply

The role suits people who are:

  • Empathetic and good listeners.
  • Respectful of confidentiality and safeguarding.
  • Over 18 and able to commit to at least one 12-week buddying period.
  • Either with lived experience of leukaemia or with the capacity to give empathetic support.

How we’ll support you

  • Full induction and role-specific training.
  • Ongoing supervision and support from our Volunteer Coordinator.
  • Opportunities to connect with other volunteers through our online community.
