Become a HTA patient expert
Health Technology Appraisals (HTAs) look at whether new medicines and treatments should be made available on the NHS. As a Patient Expert Volunteer, you’ll bring the patient voice into these decisions, helping to ensure that lived experience is part of the process.
Summary
Volunteer as an HTA Patient Expert with Leukaemia Care and make sure the patient voice is heard in drug and treatment appraisals.
What you’ll do
- Share your personal experience of leukaemia, MDS, or MPN in writing or at meetings.
- Review information and provide feedback to ensure it reflects patient realities.
- Represent the needs of patients and carers when treatments are being considered.
- Work with Leukaemia Care staff to prepare submissions and statements.
What you’ll gain

Time commitment
- Flexible and ad hoc, depending on when HTAs are scheduled.
- Involves some preparation time for each submission or meeting.
Who can apply
This role is open to:
- Patients or carers with lived experience of leukaemia, MDS, or MPN.
- People comfortable sharing their experiences in writing or speaking.
- Volunteers who are respectful of confidentiality and safeguarding.
- Over 18's only.

- One-to-one guidance from our policy and volunteering staff.
- Peer support and opportunities to connect with other volunteers.
