Become a support group facilitator
Our online support groups give people a safe and understanding space to connect and share their experiences. As a Support Group Facilitator, you’ll co-lead these sessions, making sure every member feels welcome, heard, and supported.
Summary
Volunteer as a Support Group Facilitator with Leukaemia Care and help run safe, welcoming online meetings for people affected by leukaemia.
What you’ll do
- Co-facilitate online support group meetings on Zoom (up to five times per year).
- Create a warm, inclusive environment for attendees.
- Support conversation flow, encourage participation, and ensure respectful communication.
- Help manage Zoom functions (chat, waiting room, spotlighting speakers).
- Signpost members to Leukaemia Care services and resources.
- Complete a short follow-up form and gather feedback from attendees.
What you'll gain

- Experience of working as part of a small, supportive volunteer team.
Time commitment
- Meetings are currently up to 5 times per year (maximum once a month if demand increases).
- Each meeting lasts 1.5 hours, with around 2 hours of preparation and follow-up.
- Occasional check-ins or catch-up sessions with Leukaemia Care staff.
Who can apply
This role is open to people who are:
- Patients or carers with personal experience of leukaemia, MDS, or MPN.
- Calm, empathetic, and active listeners.
- Confident using Zoom (or willing to learn).
- Over 18 years old (a DBS check will be arranged free of charge).
How we’ll support you
- Comprehensive induction and onboarding.
- Training in peer support facilitation and safeguarding.
- The chance to co-facilitate alongside experienced staff or volunteers.
- Ongoing supervision and peer support from the Volunteering Manager.
