The support I received from Leukaemia Care during my treatment was absolutely invaluable. Knowing someone understood what I was going through made all the difference.
Nulla porttitor accumsan tincidunt. Curabitur aliquet quam id dui posuere blandit. Vivamus magna justo, lacinia eget consectetur sed, convallis at tellus.
What Helped Me Cope
Looking back, there were a few things that really made a difference during treatment:
- Keeping a journal to track symptoms and emotions
- Joining a support group with others going through similar experiences
- Staying physically active when energy levels allowed
- Being open with family and friends about what I needed
- Working closely with my clinical nurse specialist
Support Services I Used
Leukaemia Care offers a range of services. Here are the ones I found most helpful:
- CARE Line – free confidential helpline
- Buddy Scheme – one-to-one support from someone who’s been there
- Patient Information Booklets – clear, trusted information
- Online Support Group – connecting with others from home
Things I Wish I’d Known Sooner
A few misconceptions I had early on:
- That feeling tired means you should stop doing everything
- That you have to face every appointment alone
- That asking for help is a sign of weakness
- Remember you are not alone in this journey
- Take things one day at a time
- Lean on your support network
- Celebrate the small victories
How did you first find out about your diagnosis?
I went to my GP after noticing persistent fatigue and unexplained bruising. A routine blood test came back abnormal and I was referred to a haematologist within two weeks.
What treatment did you receive?
I was treated with a combination of chemotherapy and targeted therapy over six months.
- Four cycles of chemotherapy
- Daily targeted therapy tablets
- Regular blood monitoring
What advice would you give to someone newly diagnosed?
The most important thing is to not face it alone. Reach out to Leukaemia Care, talk to your medical team, and let your loved ones in.
Need someone to talk to?
Our CARE Line is a free, confidential support service. Speak to someone who understands what you’re going through.

Looking Forward
