We know that living with leukaemias, MPNs or MDS can put extra strain on your finances. Rising bills, hospital travel and reduced income can all make life harder. To help, we’re offering a one-off grant of £175 through our Cost of Living Fund.

About the cost of living fund

The Cost of Living Fund provides financial grants of £175 to patients and families affected by leukaemia, MPNs or MDS.

The grant is designed to ease extra costs caused by:

  • Travel to and from hospital.
  • Higher energy bills.
  • Rising food costs.
  • A loss of income due to time off work.

Applications are considered on a first-come, first-served basis while funds are available.

Who can apply

You can apply if you are:

A patient aged 18+ with leukaemia, a MPN diagnosis or MDS who is either:

  • Currently in treatment.
  • On active monitoring (sometimes referred to as watch and wait)
  • In treatment-free remission (CML).
  • A family member of someone in one of the groups above.

Please note:

  • Only one grant per family.
  • Grants cannot be applied for retrospectively.
  • Support workers can help complete the form, but applications must be in the patient’s name with their contact details.

How to apply

If you cannot apply online, call our helpline on 08088 010 444 and our team will complete the application with you over the phone.

When applying:

  • You will need to provide a copy of a letter from your consultant confirming diagnosis.
  • Do not send bank details at this stage,  if successful, we will contact you to request them securely.

What the grant can be used for

The £175 grant can be used flexibly to help with costs such as:

Hospital travel (bus, train, fuel, parking, taxi).

Food and groceries.

Gas, electricity, water bills.

Internet access

What happens after you apply

Processing your application

  • We’ll acknowledge receipt of your form.
  • The application will be assessed by our Patient Services team.
  • You’ll receive a decision within 10 working days.
  • If successful,you will receive an email to request bank details.

If your application is successful

  • You’ll receive the £175 grant.
  • We’ll ask for feedback to measure the fund’s impact.
  • Our team may contact you about further support, such as benefits advice or employment support.

If your application is unsuccessful

This may be because:

  • You don’t meet the eligibility criteria.
  • The fund has been fully allocated.

We’ll contact you to discuss other ways we can help.

Confidentiality

Your personal information will only be used to assess your application, process payment if successful, and gather anonymised evidence of the fund’s impact.

Is the grant free?

Yes. The Cost of Living Fund is a one-off £175 grant.

Can I apply more than once?

No. Only one grant per family is available.

How long will it take to hear back?

We aim to give you a decision within 10 working days.

What if the fund runs out?

Applications are first-come, first-served. If funds are depleted, we will let you know and direct you to other support.

I’m a support worker. Can I apply for my patient?

You can support someone with the application, but the patient’s details must be used.
