GP learning
Early diagnosis of blood cancer saves lives. Our free, CPD-accredited training supports GPs and primary care professionals to spot the signs earlier and take the right next steps.
Why early diagnosis matters
Early diagnosis of blood cancer can significantly improve survival and patient experience. GPs and other primary care professionals play a vital role, yet symptoms are often vague and non-specific. Many GPs may only see one case every two years.
Leukaemia Care provides free, CPD-accredited learning and resources to help primary care teams recognise possible blood cancer earlier and support timely referral.
This is important because:
- 30% of blood cancers are diagnosed as emergencies, compared to 22% across all cancers
- Acute lymphoblastic leukaemia (ALL) has the highest emergency presentation rate of any cancer, with 65% of patients diagnosed this way
- Earlier diagnosis improves survival rates and patient experience
Our GP learning programme supports earlier recognition of possible leukaemia, MDS, and MPNs, and helps clinicians understand the next steps for urgent referral.
Chronic leukaemia
Hosted on the Gateway C learning platform, learn how chronic myeloid leukaemia (CML) and chronic lymphocytic leukaemia (CLL) can present, and explore routes to diagnosis and management.
Acute leukaemia
Hosted on the Gateway C platform, acute leukaemia progresses rapidly and usually requires urgent treatment. This course covers presenting symptoms and referral pathways.
Diagnosis and management
Hosted on RCGP, this 30-minute course, comprising two 15-minute modules (one on acute, one on chronic leukaemia), we will examine the key roles for GPs in diagnosing and managing patients with leukaemia.
